Barbara Ann Lawrence, a beloved wife, mother, sister sister-in-law and a member of the Basking Ridge community, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born on February 25, 1942, Barbara was raised in Passaic, New Jersey, the daughter of Edward and Stacia Oles, who precededher in death. She lived a life marked by faith, compassion and a deep commitment to helping others. A long time member of Saint James Catholic Church in Basking Ridge NJ 07920, she carried her faith with quiet grace throughout her life. Barbara and her husband Michael Lawrence, shared a love story that began at the Jersey Shore, in 1966, where they met and fell in love. Their bond grew stronger over the years, and they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with devotion, laughter, family and extensive travel.

Barbara dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a school nurse, holding her RN, BSN, and Masters’s degrees in Community Health and Health Counseling. Despite her impressive academic achievements, what defined her most was the way she connected with her students at Washington school in West Orange, New Jersey, where her warmth, empathy and steady presence touch countless young lives.

Active in community events, Barbara was always willing to lend a hand, offer support, or simply brighten someone’s day. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially biking and walking the beach on Long Beach Island NJ, where the family enjoyed cherished times for many years. 

The treasured memories were ocean breezes, family traditions and sitting on the beach engaged in conversation with her dear friends. 

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Mike; her sons Michael John and Chad; her brother, Edward Oles, and his wife Kathryn, of Toms River, New Jersey; her sister-in-law, Shirley Kroeger; and her brother-in-law, John Lawrence. She is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Viewing will be held at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 on Tuesday, March 17th, from 4:00-7:00 PM.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint James Church, 184 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, 11:30 AM. Cremation services will be private.
