James G. Svehla, age 94 of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away from this life on February 23, 2026. The son of James and Ella Svehla, Jim was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Saint Rita Catholic High School in 1949.

Jim attended Purdue University, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduating he started his career with the Teletype Corporation in Skokie, IL, then moving in 1969 to work for Western Electric in Greensboro, NC, then accepting an assignment for a three-year tour to the U.S. Missile Test Range on Kwajalein Island in the Marshall Islands, working on the Safeguard System Test Target Program. Jim and his family returned to the U.S. in 1976 settling in Basking Ridge, NJ and working at AT&T Headquarters in Basking Ridge until his retirement.

Jim was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and a devoted Purdue Boilermaker. He possessed remarkable curiosity and sharp understanding of World History, Art and Music. He was an excellent cook, a creative gardener, golfer, bowler and scuba diver, enjoying diving trips with his daughter that created lasting memories. He loved travel and enjoyed many vacations in his retirement years.

Above all, Jim was a devoted husband and father. Marrying his wife Joan in 1955, they enjoyed 49 wonderful years together.

Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Joan who passed away in 2004 and is survived by his daughter, Kathy Moscioni, (Richard), and two adored grandchildren Brian and Lauren Moscioni who brought him much joy.
