August “Augie” Lorio, 67 years of age, from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away on December 22, 2025. Augie was born on April 15, 1958, in Bayonne, New Jersey, to John and Lollabelle Lorio. Augie was raised in Rutherford, New Jersey, with his siblings Ann, Mary, and John.

Augie had a long career as an educator and gym teacher at Bridgewater Middle School, where he brought excitement and fun to his students’ lives daily. He earned his master’s degree in physical education from Montclair State University. Augie was happily married for 21 years to his late wife, Amy Lorio. Together, they raised their beautiful children John, Kaitlin, and Lily.

Augie had a passion for fitness and sports in his younger years. Growing up, he was a dedicated athlete and later became a coach in several sports such as football, wrestling, and lacrosse. Augie dedicated much of his time to encouraging and coaching many young athletes. Through his teaching and coaching, he had a positive, lasting impact on countless lives. Even when retired, Augie continued to be involved in his passion for athletics and officiated local high school and collegiate sporting events until the day of his passing.

Augie was a man of faith and was a loving soul. He will be missed greatly. He was preceded in death by his father, John Lorio; his brother, John H. Lorio; his grandson, Gabriel Lorio; and his adoring wife, Amy Lorio.

He is survived by his mother Lollabelle Lorio; son, John (Ciera) Lorio; daughters Kaitlin (James) Keogh and Lily Lorio; his grandsons August D. Lorio and Sullivan Lorio; and granddaughter Josephine Lorio. He is also survived by his partner, Doreen, who was an important part of his later life.

Augie is survived by his siblings Ann (Elliott) Greenberg and Mary (Robert) Silica.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 3:00 - 7:00pm at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, 11:00am at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
