Kenneth Rand, Jr Obituary

Kenneth Richard Rand Jr., of the Landings in Savannah, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 at the age of eighty-eight.  Born in Morristown, New Jersey, Ken attended the Hampden Hall School in Branford, Connecticut.  During his youth, he was an outstanding athlete in sailing, football, basketball and baseball.  Upon graduation from Hampden Hall, Ken received an ROTC scholarship and attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he was a member of both the Sailing Team and the Sigma Pi fraternity.  He graduated from Cornell in 1959 with a BS in Chemical Engineering and served on active duty in the Navy for three years and many years in the Reserves, ultimately achieving the rank of Captain.   During his time in the Navy, Ken met his wife Lois, who he wed on December 28, 1963.


Ken attended the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with his MBA in 1965.  For many years, Ken worked in various business executive roles, lastly as the Assistant Treasurer for ADP in Roseland, New Jersey. He was also involved in local politics, serving on Bernardsville’s Borough Council for five terms.


Married fifty-four years, Ken and Lois had two children, Ken III and Wendy, who they raised in Bernardsville, New Jersey. Ken was a devoted husband and father, enthusiastically supporting his family’s many sports and activities.  Continuing his own love of sports into adulthood, Ken skied and played golf, tennis, and paddle tennis as a member of Roxiticus Golf Club.  He raced sailboats (E-Scows) out of Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club and competed in the Mallory Cup, also attending many Eastern and National regattas over the years.  Ken and Lois enjoyed gourmet dinner parties and fun, laughter filled weekends with family and friends at their lake house on Lake Hopatcong where many referred to Ken by the nickname “Pete”.  They frequently traveled and spent many trips abroad with friends, traveling to most European countries.


Ken is survived by sister Lynn Rand Smart of Bonita Bay, Florida and Cape Cod, NH, his, daughter, Wendy L. Rand of Park City, Utah, son, Kenneth R. Rand III, daughter in-law, Lynn Hendricks Rand and grandchildren Hadley Rand, and Kenneth R. Rand IV (Kip) of Mendham, New Jersey. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois Rand, his father, Kenneth Richard Rand Sr. and his mother Ruth Lindabury Rand.

 


Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 from 11:00-12:00 pm.
