John Passmore, 82, of Chatham Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025.

John was born on May 30, 1943, in Newark, NJ. He was a devoted husband to Jean, a loving father to Steven and Nicole, and an adoring grandfather to Brooke and Reese.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1960–1964, serving on the carrier ship U.S.S. Saratoga as a signalman on the ship's bridge. While on leave in November 1963, he met the love of his life, Jean Malanga. The two wed in October 1967 and spent the next 58 years building their family, steeped in traditional values, love, and respect for one another.

John was hard-working and at times worked two jobs for the benefit of the family. Despite his responsibilities, he always had time for his family. In 1987, John joined FedEx on a part-time basis as a second form of income. He eventually transitioned to full-time and spent the remaining 32 years of his career with FedEx, retiring at the age of 76 as a lead Safety Engineer–Ramp Operations at Newark Liberty International Airport.

He was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

John is survived by his wife Jean, his children Steven and Nicole, and his grandchildren Brooke and Reese, as well as many extended family members who will miss him dearly.

We find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, December 8, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.

Funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Church, 184 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
