Michael James Vasile, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, partner, coworker, and friend, passed away on November 11, 2025, at the age of 83.
Michael was a lifelong New Yorker—the quintessential kid from Queens. Growing up in Jackson Heights, he was surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. It was a world from another era, where relatives lived only a few doors or blocks away and extended family meant everything. These relationships shaped him deeply and remained central to his life; even as the years passed and miles accumulated, his cousins continued to be among his closest friends.
As he moved throughout New York—from Long Island to Westchester to Rhinebeck to Albany—Michael carried that sense of family with him. Wherever he lived, the people around him quickly became part of his extended family. His loyalty was unmatched, and his kindness unwavering. To Michael, family was not defined solely by blood, and he gave of himself freely to anyone lucky enough to fall within his orbit.
Michael turned his earliest passion—cars—into a career that spanned more than 40 years. He was still heading into the office at 83, a testament to his dedication and love for his work.
He had a remarkable capacity for affection, especially for animals. Over the years he cared for many dogs, learned to ride horses in Rhinebeck, and insisted the barn cats always had heat on cold winter nights. His empathy for animals had no limits.
Michael also had a wonderful sense of humor. Whether it was The Honeymooners, Two and a Half Men (including his memorable Charlie Sheen–style bowling shirt phase), or Howard Stern, he gravitated toward comedians who told it like it was—irreverent or otherwise.
Fiercely loyal, Michael built friendships that lasted decades, a truth reflected in the outpouring of love and memories shared since his passing.
Michael is survived by his sister, Natalie Gumersell (Jack); his three children, Karen Gallop, Michael Vasile (Beatriz), and Jennifer Rivero (Manny); and his four grandchildren—Julia, Amanda, Matthew, and Amelia. He also leaves behind his partner, Susan Supliski; his former wife and lifelong friend, Terri Vasile; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to list.
He is predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Jean Vasile, who, no doubt, are overjoyed to be reunited with him in the afterlife.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington, NY. Michael’s deep compassion for animals was a defining part of his life, and supporting this organization honors his legacy. It is also especially meaningful to the family, as his granddaughter Amelia actively volunteers there.
