Phyllis W. Safaryn (nee Wagner), 95, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia.

She was born in Bayonne, NJ on May 13, 1930 to John and Matilda Wagner. She was a graduate of Bayonne High School Class of 1947. Following graduation, she became a secretary at Central Hanover Bank and Trust Company in New York, and then at the M.W. Kellogg Company in Jersey City. In 1956, she married her loving husband, Joseph F. Safaryn. They moved to Roselle, NJ in 1962 where they raised their children. She was a communicant at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Roselle. Later in life, she became a Paralegal and worked with her husband in their law office in Cranford, NJ. They were also active in the Republican Party and her husband served as mayor of Roselle from 1992 to 1996. Following her husband’s retirement, they relocated to Basking Ridge, NJ. They also owned a summer home in Seaside Park, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph and her sister Doris L. Wagner.

She is survived by her son, Dr. John E. Safaryn and his wife, Elaine of Moorestown, NJ; her daughter, Susan S. Conroy and her husband, Sean of Basking Ridge, NJ; and her four beloved grandchildren: Christopher, Erin and Ryan Conroy, and Elizabeth A. Safaryn. She is also survived by her niece, Donna Pomel, her husband, Charles, and their sons Paul and Matthew.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ. All family and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. James R.C. Church, 184 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ on Saturday, September 27 at 10 a.m. followed by internment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.
