Mary Seaman Clowney, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Morristown, New Jersey, on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 95 surrounded by her loving family.

A longtime resident of Harding and Morris Townships, Mary was educated at Miss Beard’s School in Orange, New Jersey, and went on to graduate from Connecticut College. On December 11, 1954, she married William Daniel Clowney, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in South Orange, N.J.

Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and joy cherished by her children Lester Clowney, Elizabeth Byrnes Arnold, William Clowney, Michael Clowney, Janet Kermes and their spouses, as well as six exceptional grandchildren who remain proud and grateful for the example she set and the life she so fully embraced. She is also survived by her beloved sister Elizabeth Gordon and longtime friend Donald Williams.

A spirited and active woman throughout her life, Mary was an avid golfer and tennis player who took great pleasure in her daily walks and maintained a regular gym routine well into her nineties. In addition to her athletic pursuits, she was a gifted cook and a gracious hostess known for lively dinner parties that inevitably ended with a phone call to her children proclaiming, “it was the best party ever”

Even as time gently slowed her pace, Mary never lost her radiant smile, her infectious laugh. Her genuine interest in the lives of others and her unwavering kindness made her a treasured friend to many.

Memorial Service will take place on July 30, 2025, 11am at St. Peters Church, 70 Maple Ave, Morristown NJ 07960.
