Born April 22, 1950, Died July 4, 2025
Andrea Louise Long, lovingly known as “Andie,” of Warren, New Jersey, passed away on July 4, 2025, at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with sepsis and necrotizing fasciitis. Born on April 22, 1950, in Parma Heights, Ohio, Andrea’s brilliant mind, insatiable curiosity, and compassionate heart left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to share in her journey.
Andrea’s path was shaped by a profound dedication to learning. She earned four distinguished degrees—one bachelor’s, two master’s, and a PhD from the University of Michigan—demonstrating her keen intellect and relentless pursuit of knowledge. Her thirst for understanding extended powerfully into the realms of medicine and statistics, where she became a trusted expert, captivating both colleagues and friends with her insights. Andrea was widely recognized for being exceptionally intelligent, remarkably well read, and unfailingly generous in sharing her knowledge.
Andrea’s storied career reached a milestone in 1988 when she joined AT&T Bell Laboratories, a testament to her excellence and commitment in her field. Her professional achievements were matched by the joy she found in her personal life, particularly following her marriage to Jeffrey H. Hooper on August 23, 1987. Together, they traveled widely, seeking new adventures and deepening their appreciation of art, history, and culture.
A talented painter, Andrea embraced creativity in all aspects of her life. Whether capturing landscapes on canvas or exploring new horizons, she expressed a wonder for the world that inspired others to do the same. Her spiritual journey was equally important; Andrea was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where she found spiritual nourishment and fellowship. She also cherished joining via the web the services at St. Eugene’s Cathedral in Derry, Ireland, in order to feel connected to faith communities across the globe.
Andrea’s memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 140 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. The service will be followed by the committal of her ashes in the St. Mark’s Memorial Garden and light refreshments in the St. Mark’s Heritage Room.
As we gather to celebrate Andrea’s life, we remember these words of hope:
“So, we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.”
Andie will be greatly missed, lovingly remembered, and cherished always for her intellect, creativity, and the quiet strength and kindness she shared with all who knew her.
