Nancy D Widmer Obituary

Nancy D. Widmer, 88, of Nashville, TN, passed away on June 30, 2025 surrounded by loving family members.

Nancy was born to David P. Demarest, Sr. and Ruth Demarest (nee Marsland) on April 11, 1937 in NJ, a state that always held a special place in her heart. She graduated with the class of 1955 from Dwight Morrow H.S. in Englewood, NJ. and later Rutgers University, where she earned a Master in Library Science (MLS). In her youth, she was musical and enjoyed playing the trombone.

In 1961 she married Herbert T. Widmer. They settled and raised a family in Bernardsville, a town she loved, as well as the entire Somerset Hills area. She resided there for many of her adult years. Nancy will be remembered as an avid reader and animal lover, especially dogs. Family members will remember with fondness the family dogs, Nikki, Polly, Fritz, and Ranger. Nancy found a spiritual home at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for most of her adult life.  She served as the church librarian for 20 years.  Nancy was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). After being a beloved mother and homemaker, Nancy went on to a successful career as a librarian at the Bernards Township Library.

Nancy is survived by her children, Susan and David Widmer, who love her dearly and will remember her as a loving and dedicated mother.  She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Ruth Demarest, and her brother, David P. Demarest.
