It is with great sadness that his family announces the death of Robert P. Luciano.
Bob was born in Harlem Hospital on October 9, 1933. An only child, he was raised in the Bronx by his parents, Peter and Jennie Luciano. He met his wife of 71 years, Barbara (Schiavone) Luciano at Olinville Junior High School. They married in 1953. Bob received his BBA from Baruch College of the City University of New York in 1954. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. After his discharge from the army, he attended University of Michigan Law School, graduating in 1958.
He began his career practicing law in New York at Royall, Koegel and Rogers for eight years. He then took a job in the law department of Ciba Corporation in Summit, NJ, rising to become the president of Ciba-Geigy’s pharmaceuticals division. He left Ciba-Geigy to become president of Lederle Labs and then moved to Schering-Plough Corporation where he spent the rest of his career. He became the CEO of Schering-Plough in 1982 and chairman in 1984 He retired in 1998.
He served on the boards of Summit Bancorp, Merrill Lynch, Bank of New York, Allied Signal, Borden, C.R. Bard, Inco, Ltd., the New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company, Biogen, and Drew University.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children Susan and Richard and his three granddaughters, Susanna, Elizabeth, and Rose. He was predeceased by his parents and his son-in-law, Stephen Gelber. He and Barbara raised their family in Morris County, living in Convent Station, Madison, and Harding.
In retirement they moved to Vero Beach Fl where he enjoyed playing golf and hosting family. Everyone who knew him knows how important his family was to him. He never tired of telling his granddaughters that if they needed anything, they could always come to him. He was very aware of how fortunate he had been and was a generous supporter of many charitable organizations. Education and healthcare were issues particularly close to his heart.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Morristown Medical Center.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ from 10:00am - 11:00am. Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 11:00am. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemtery, Basking Ridge, NJ
