Leroy E. Pierson, 88, a lifelong resident of Bernardsville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Known by his family and friends as Sonny, he was born in Morristown, NJ to Harry and Lillian Pierson on April 20, 1937. The youngest of four children. He attended Bernardsville High School. Sonny was an avid and colorful conversationalist, enjoying time with friends and neighbors throughout the community.

Sonny worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator working for many companies in the area including the Bernardsville Quarry and Mannon Excavating and Paving in Flemington. A lifetime member of the Bernardsville Fire Company, joining in 1963 he was very active in his younger years. He enjoyed collecting ballcaps, wristwatches and spending time watching auto racing and football.

Sonny is survived by his brother, Harry Pierson, of Florida, nephew Richard Pierson, nieces Christine Pierson, Karen Hall (Handelong) and Lorie Beckwith (Handelong), grandnephew Thomas, and grandnieces Lisa Marie  and Jessica. He is preceded in death by his wife Harriet (Parnell) and sisters Hazel Evanoff and Eleanor Handelong.

He will be especially missed by his dear friends Leslie, Mike and Erin Davidson, with whom he spent much of his time with recently.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, 11:30 at the funeral home. Internment will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bernardsville Fire Company.
