Bruce Mastrobattista was born on November 6th, 1959, and passed peacefully in Morristown Medical Center on May 12th, 2025.
Bruce was the second child of five born to Sam and Darliene Mastrobattista and was raised in Bernardsville. He attended elementary school at St. Elizabeth’s and then Bernards High School. Bruce played on the Mountie varsity football team and graduated in 1978. After high school, Bruce was a laborer on many area construction projects for Local 232, including the USGA headquarters in Far Hills. Bruce was a member of the Bernardsville Fire Company and played softball in the Bernardsville Men’s Recreation League for many years. After serving in Local 232 for twenty years, Bruce retired and began to focus on his passion, horse racing.
Bruce became a certified trainer of Tic-Tag-Toe, a harness racing horse which ran at Monticello, Pocono Downs, Freehold and the Meadowlands Race Tracks. This passion consumed his day-to-day life for ten years, including the transport, care, and maintenance of Tic-Tag-Toe. He continued to train this horse until he retired from horse racing and training. In his retirement, Bruce was an astute observer of both harness and thoroughbred racing. He resided for several years in Byram Twp., Flanders, and eventually settled in the Panther Valley section of Hackettstown.
He was an avid follower of the Miami Dolphins and attended many of their games throughout his life.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Darliene Mastrobattista. He is survived by his siblings Michael Mastro, Sandra Gover (Jim), Glenn Mastrobattista (Jill) and Darla Della Rovere (Tony). He is also survived by three nieces, Chelsea, Jillian and Samantha, plus seven nephews, Michael, Adam, Brenton, Brendan, Nicholas, Matthew, Kyle and great-niece, Elizabeth. He is also survived by one aunt and uncle, and many cousins.
