Raymond (Ray) Peter Lagerveld, 77, of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025 at his home in Basking Ridge.
Ray was born in Paterson, NJ to Richard and Mary Lagerveld on October 26, 1947. He went to high school at Paterson Technical and Vocational High School and graduated in 1965. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from New York Institute of Technology. He was drafted during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a conscientious objector. He was always a peaceful and kind soul. He was part of a small church group which became close extended family, and those who remain, still are family.
Ray worked as a Purchasing Manager for General Hose, then Purchasing and Sales at MP Tube Works, and finally as an Expeditor for Minor Rubber. He enjoyed hockey, was a long-time suffering New York Jets fan and ticket holder for over 30 years, and an avid tennis player and watcher. Music was his passion, including 60s and 70s music and progressing to some jazz and blues in his later years. He loved relaxing in the many islands of the Caribbean and he and his wife, Susan, were married in Tortola in 2001.
Ray is survived by his wife of 24 years, Susan Foster, of Basking Ridge, and two brothers, Rich and Bob. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Habitat for Humanity or the Southern Poverty Law Center.
