Obituary of Lionel Edwards
Dr. Lionel David Edwards passed away at his home in Morristown, NJ on March 11th 2025. Born on April 10, 1941 during the Blitz in Birmingham, England to Constance Mary and Lionel Roden Lewis Edwards, Lionel was the oldest of their 3 children followed by Paul and Josephine.
A graduate of Kings College in London, Lionel received his medical degree from Guy’s Medical College and worked at Guy’s hospital upon graduation. While at a party in London, Lionel met his beautiful wife Aileen Elspeth Robertson whom he was married to for over 57 years. They married on March 26, 1966 and went on to raise 4 children Lionel “Justin”, Marcus (Anne), Alexis “Alex” (Amy), Victoria “Vicky” (Joseph Lepore) and had 8 grandchildren: Chad, Kyle, Trey, Paige, Joey, Gian, Piper and Pierce. He is proceeded in death by his daughter Victoria and wife, Aileen.
Lionel and Aileen made the decision and moved to the United States in 1976, first to Kalamazoo, MI, Libertyville, IL and then Basking Ridge, NJ. The move to the US marked where Lionel changed careers as a medical practitioner to work in the Pharmaceutical industry. During that time, he helped getting medicine tested and approved for several major pharmaceutical companies and developed a specialized focus on geriatric and Asian populations. One of the most notable medicines he helped pass through the FDA was Claritin, a hugely popular allergy relief medicine.
Lionel started his own business in 1997 called Pharma Pro Plus Inc. where he provided consulting and training for pharmaceutical companies. He was a great speaker and used his gift to run many training courses. In 2000, Lionel became an adjunct professor for Temple University and was much appreciated by his students. He was also a co-author of a major pharmaceutical textbook still used today in universities.
A burial service will be held at Somerset Hills Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Basking Ridge, NJ on Saturday, March 22nd at 11:30 am with a reception lunch to follow for sharing fond stories of Lionel.
