Obituary of John G Guyet

John (Jack) Gerald Guyet of Basking Ridge NJ, passed away on February 19, 2025. Jack was born in Paterson, NJ on July 27, 1935, to John C. and Kathryn S. Guyet. He attended Ridgewood High School where he played basketball, football, and baseball. Jack graduated with a BS in Economics from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 1957.

 

Jack served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy from 1957-1959 aboard the USS Charles H. Roan. After his Naval service, he attended Fordham University School of Law, in New York City, where he received his law degree in 1962. He practiced law for the next 50 years, initially as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan, and then with the NYC Department of Investigation. He relocated to NJ where he spent many years as a litigator.

 

While living in New York City he met and married Geraldine (Gerry) Maloney. They moved to South Orange, NJ where they raised their five children.

 

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Gerry, and his children, Danielle (Jeffrey Lumby), Dana (George Forbes), John (Elizabeth Maher), Stephanie (Doug Knecht) and Peter Guyet. Jack is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, Conor, Sean, Cole, Nolan, Madelyn, Sadie, Olivia, Max and Oskar, as well as his brother, Paul (Mary), and his sisters Joan (Jack Campana) and Nancy Crann.

 

Jack was a devout and lifelong Catholic. He was a tenacious tennis and platform tennis player. He loved spending time with his extended family at the Jersey shore and celebrating holidays! He is an original NY Giants fan, enjoyed watching PBS and listening to classical music. He read The Star Ledger and New York Times daily. Jack was happiest when sharing stories in a pub with a pint and a friend. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed!
