As her obituary so elegantly expressed, Ruth was an exceptional woman: kind, classy, talented, and compassionate.
But what has always stood out to me was Ruth's fierce and independent intelligence--and not just because she occasionally took my side when I debated Gerry.
Ruth and I also shared an admiration for the writings of Eric Hoffer.
I will miss Ruth's quiet presence whenever I dropped by for a visit. But her spirit of integrity and open-mindedness will continue to inspire me and all those who were lucky enough to know her.
