Obituary of Gertrude C Newman

Gertrude C Newman age 98 of Basking Ridge, died on March 19th. She was born in Orange, NJ and graduated from Orange High School and Drake Business School. She worked for Prudential until her marriage to Charles M. Newman in 1941. They resided in Florham Park before moving to Normandy Beach and eventually splitting their time between NJ and Delray Beach, Fl. Mrs. Newman was manager of the women's department of Abercrombie and Fitch in Short Hills, NJ for 16 years prior to her retirement in 1978. She was an active member of the Orange Junior Women's Club and Garden Committee and a volunteer for Point Pleasant Hospital for many years. She was active in the Garden Clubs of both Normandy Beach and Delray. Mrs. Newman lived at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge for the last 15 years. She was a volunteer for the greenhouse and dining committees and led a very active social life in the community. She developed many dear and cherished friendships during her time living there. She is predeceased by her husband Charles and survived by her son, Peter and wife Virginia of HoHoKus, NJ, daughter Merrill Clarke and husband Bruce of Hamburg, NJ, granddaughter Kristin Leo and husband Michael of Mendham, NJ and the two great loves of her life, her great grandchildren, Nicholas and Gracielynn Leo. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017, 11:00am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 140 S Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
