Obituary of Ann Belardo

85, homemaker and teacher , of Martinsville Ann May ( McCloskey ) Belardo of the Martinsville section of Bridgewater , died on Friday February 24, 2017, after a brief illness. Ann was a graduate of St. Vincent's Academy in Newark , obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Elizabeth's College and later a Master's degree in Education from Seton Hall University. She was a grade school teacher before raising a family. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John N. Belardo, her three sons Thomas S. Belardo, David M. Belardo, and John P. Belardo and his spouse Joan Neri Belardo of Basking Ridge ; their two children James N. Belardo of New York City and Jennifer Ann Belardo, a senior at Davidson College in North Carolina. Ann's father Philip McCloskey was born in Rathmullan, County Donegal, the Free Republic of Ireland. Her mother Hannah McCloskey was also born in County Donegal, Ireland , in Dunfanaghy. Her paternal grandparents were John McCloskey and Fanny { Hagan) McCloskey . Her maternal grandparents were Teague Gallagher and Sarah ( Sweeney} Gallagher. John and Teague were farmers, Mom was a devout Catholic and for many years attended and taught religion at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Martinsville.She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage. Mom fought the good fight in her later years with declining health and at the time of her death was a resident of Chelsea Assisted Living Home in Warren Township where she had many dear friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017, from 5:00 - 8:00pm at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home , 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday February 28 at St . James R.C. Church , 184 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge.
