Obituary of Otto Paul Schon

Otto P. Schon, 81, of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 1, 2016 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He resided in Union and South Plainfield before moving to Basking Ridge in 1977. Otto was a 1958 graduate of Seton Hall University and attended Seton Hall Law School. He proudly served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during peacetime and was a member of the Union Elks Lodge 1583. He retired from Allstate Insurance Company in 2000 after 43 years of service as sales agent. Otto was a beloved coach in Pop Warner Football, Little League Baseball and Basketball. He was an avid gardener and a lifelong fan of the N.Y. Giants and Yankees. Otto was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Frances Schon, and twin brother, Bill. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen, and their three children, Paul Schon and wife Cynthia of St. Louis, MO; Lori Patterson and husband Andrew of Jacksonville, FL; and Ed Schon and wife Caren of Basking Ridge. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Madison Schon, Avery and Brady Patterson, and Ryan and Jack Schon. Visitation will be held at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass in celebration of his life will be held at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.
