Obituary of Judith Kendall

Judith Kendall, Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Friend and Teacher Judith Townsend Kendall, 79, passed away on July 27, 2015 at her home in Morristown, New Jersey after an active and full life. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Morristown United Methodist Church, 50 South Park Place, Morristown, New Jersey. Judy was born in Rahway, New Jersey in 1936, the first of four children of Dr. Leslie Melvin Townsend and Eleanor Wallace Townsend. She graduated from Roselle Park High School in 1953 and Middlebury College in 1957. Judy was a beloved elementary school teacher at Mountain View School in Mount Olive Township, New Jersey for over 25 years. She won many accolades for her teaching, including being recognized as the school's Teacher of the Year as part of the New Jersey State Teacher of the Year program. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her three children and seven grandchildren. She often worked two and sometimes three jobs while raising her three children, but always found time to help with homework and make sure her children got to games, practices and other activities. Later in her life, she was a caring and loving grandmother who enjoyed attending and speaking about her grandchildren's many activities. Upon her mother's passing 9 years ago, Judy happily assumed the role of matriarch of her large extended family and organized many family reunions at the New Jersey shore, Cape Cod and other locales, preferably with an ocean view. She was a voracious reader, a loyal friend to many over the years and she enjoyed traveling, plays, movies, and the New York Yankees. Over the last 13 years of her life, Judy battled lung cancer and other health problems with a strong will, sense of optimism, dignity and grace that amazed and inspired her doctors, fellow patients and family. Judy is survived by her three children, George and his wife, Jane, of Basking Ridge, NJ, Carolyn Stoller and her husband, Harry, of Sudbury, MA, and Doug and his wife, Juliet, of Washington, DC, and her seven grandchildren, Andrew, David, Jack and William Kendall, Michael and David Stoller and Miracle Kendall. She is also survived by her siblings, James Townsend and his wife, Edith, John Townsend and his wife, Ruen, and Janice Herzog and her husband, Frank, four loving nieces and many grand nieces and nephews.
