Obituary of John C Kurylo

John, "Cubby" Kurylo, 62, a lifelong resident of Bernardsville passed away on Sunday, June 14th, at the Center for HopeHospice in Scotch Plains, NJ, following a long battle with cancer. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bernardsville. Visitation will be held at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, on Wednesday, June 17th from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. John was the eldest son of Elizabeth Kurylo and the late John Kurylo of Pluckemin. He was a 1971 graduate of Bernards High School and a proud member of its Group I State Championshipfootball teams of 1970-1971. John was especially proud of becoming an Eagle Scout in 1967at the age of 14. He was an active and devoted member of the Bernardsville community for many years, serving on the planning committee for the annual Bernardsville Memorial Day parade. He was a longtime member in the Elks, a strong supporter of the Goodwill Rescue Mission and of numerous service organizations and philanthropic causes. Early in his career, he advanced from apprentice to Journeyman as a carpenter for Union Local # 455 in Somerville. He later became a seasoned Construction Manager and Foreman for Stony Brook Construction Company in Somerville and for many years was responsible for the buildout of major construction projects for Fortune 500 companies across the tri-state area. "Cubby" was an avid Jets and Yankee fan and well known by his family and friends for his wonderful sense of humor and deep loyalty. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Kerr, of Allentown, PA, two grandchildren, Robert and Emma Kerr, His mother, Elizabeth Kurylo, five siblings, Steve Kurylo of Long Valley, Kathleen Kurylo-Dicks of Bernardsville, Matt Kurylo of SanDiego, CA, Karen McMonagle of Easton, PA and Kelley Castro of Peapack, and nine nephews and nieces.
