Obituary of Robert E Hayes

Robert E. Hayes, 88, of Bedminster passed away Friday, June 12, 2015. Mr. Hayes formerly lived in Bernardsville and Basking Ridge for many years. He is survived by his 5 loving children, JoAnn Coakley (Richard Nelson) of Bedminster, Sharon Greco (Joseph) of Basking Ridge, Thomas Hayes (Suzanne) of West Sussex, England, Judi Shaw (Mickey) of Sewell, NJ and Michele Kroeper (Christopher) of Apex, NC. Bob was a beloved grandfather to his 10 grandchildren: Meghan, Joey, Christie, Katie, Kyle, Caroline, Liam, Griffin, Finn and Emily. He is also survived by his 2 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hayes was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Marie Hayes, his parents, John and Nelle Hayes, his 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Born in Wilmington, Illinois, Mr. Hayes was raised on a farm. He was a member of the greatest generation. After graduating high school in Joliet, IL, he served in the Army and the Army Air Corps during World War II. His assignment with Operations Crossroads included service on Kwajalein and Iwo Jima. After returning from the war, he earned his Bachelors degree in Business Administration at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. Bob's career included executive leadership positions in Human Resources and Labor Relations. He was VP HR & Corporate Administration and Corporate Secretary on the Board of Directors for Arcadian Corporation at the time of his retirement. His family was always at the center of his life. An avid golfer, Bob also enjoyed sports, traveling, gardening, supporting charitable causes and many hobbies. Family and friends can visit on Thursday, June 18 from 7-9pm at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home; 101 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at St. James Church, S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Robert E.
