Obituary of Lorraine Kathleen Nevins

Lorraine Kathleen Marshall Nevins, 58, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on July 29th, 2010. Born in Montreal, Canada, she moved to the United States in 1966. Lorraine graduated from Douglass College of Rutgers University in 1973 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics and Child Development. She earned her Masters in Early Childhood Education at Kean College. Lorraine retired last year as an educator of 37 years at Cambridge School in Kendall Park, NJ. During her long and distinguished career, Lorraine served as a primary grade teacher, a librarian, a teacher leader, and an instructional support teacher. Although forced to battle cancer multiple times, Lorraine rarely missed a day and always took on more, not less, responsibility when it came to helping students or colleagues. She was a volunteer with local organizations like the Junior Woman's Club, and spent the last year assisting at the school library of Gill St. Bernard's. Along with her commitment to education, Lorraine created strong family traditions and memories with Ed, her husband of 37 years. Together with family they celebrated every Christmas together, caroling in the center of Basking Ridge and many summers camping in Ontario, Canada. Though well traveled, she was most comfortable surrounded by family at home in the Basking Ridge area. In the past 2 months, she enjoyed precious moments shared with grandson Liam Anderson Nevins. Left to cherish her memory are mother Kathleen Marshall, son Ian, daughter Lindsay, and grandson Liam. She is survived by two brothers Bruce Marshall (Flemington, NJ) and Ian Marshall (State College, PA). Services will be held on Thursday August 5th, 2010 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in the Chapel at Gill St. Bernards. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Lorraine Nevins to Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at www.mmhf.org.
