Basking Ridge – Elaine D. Jones, a long-time resident of the area, died Saturday, April 8th with the love of her life and husband of 68 years by her side.
Elaine was born in Newark, NJ as Elaine Georgia Davidson, second daughter to Anne and George Davidson. She attended grammar school and high school in Newark, where she established many wonderful friendships that would span the rest of her life. Spending summers "at the shore" in Belmar, NJ with these friends over the years would become treasured memories.
In 1945, Elaine's life was forever changed when, Donald Kennedy Jones, a handsome Navy sailor arrived at the Port of New York and "literally" swept her off her feet at a party when he asked her to dance. They married in 1948 at the House of Prayer in Newark, NJ and after a few years settled in Basking Ridge, NJ, where they raised two beautiful, talented daughters, Diane and Barbara. Elaine loved being a mother and missed her daughters immeasurably. Her proudest moment was when her adult daughters were asked if they had a good childhood, to which they responded, "we had a wonderful childhood".
Elaine's other passions included traveling to Bermuda and Point Pleasant for long beach vacations and dining out. Her witty sense of sense of humor will be missed by all. She leaves behind her husband, Don, and extended family and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ from 2:00 – 4:00pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 140 S Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ.
